Friend married to possibly violent man?
My friend married an ex-marine who, before they got hitched, destroyed an item of personal property. Red flag #1. Since that time there have been others: he called her a name, she says his anger scares her, he doesn’t want her to work, and gets pissed off if she hasn’t cleaned up the way he wants her to. I am amazed she never learned it is not 1953, and sad, too, that she is allowing him to treat her this way. I am also very scared for her safety. I have told her my feelings, and she wants to see if they can “work it out”. I really think he will end up hitting her. I would appreciate any insight from anyone who has been in a relationship like this. I also fear that eventually he may kill her. All the classic signs of an abuser are there. Oh yes, he has forbidden her to see me and another friend!!!! isolation.
Sounds to me like this could become an abusive situation in a hurry. He might be going through some P.T.S.D and should really seek counseling for that. The part that bothers me is the violent rage and isolation. You friend is walking down a dark path, and she should be careful where she steps.
